The Pera Museum, situated in Tepebaşi in the district of Beyoğlu, celebrated 10 years of existence on June 5th 2015.

Le tableau le plus cher de Turquie au musée de PeraLocated in a magnificent building, which formerly harboured the historic Hotel Bristol and was built in 1893 by architect Achille Manoussos, this private museum and art gallery was created in 2005 by the “Suna and Inan Kiraç Foundation”. Suna is the youngest daughter of Vehbi Koç, the automobile magnate.

It has a well-supplied art shop, an agreeable art deco café, an auditorium and a play area for children.

Three permanent collections are exhibited on several levels: Anatolian Weights and Measures, Kütahya Tiles and Ceramics and Portraits from the Empire. The section dedicated to the Orientalist movement displays over 300 paintings by European masters who depicted in their works the Ottoman world from the 17th to the 19th century. Besides, it houses the most expensive Turkish painting ever sold at auction, the famous “Tortoise Trainer” by Osman Hamdi Bey.

The Pera Museum also welcomes temporary exhibitions and has displayed numerous collections by notorious artists over the years, such as Picasso, Chagal, Andy Warhol, Cartier-Bresson and Miro.

Currently you can discover the works of Grayson Perry and Cecil Beaton.
