North of the Çesme peninsula lies Urla, a small borough with a delightful harbour, Iskele, located just a few kilometres away from the centre.

Marché d'Urla, IskeleTime seems to have stopped in this picturesque little place where fishing and sailing boats are moored side by side. Its quietness and friendly atmosphere make it the perfect place to spend a relaxing and agreeable weekend.

Iskele’s casualness eases the mind. Nothing is more pleasurable than strolling along the crafts or on the dyke when the night falls, watching the fishermen repairing their nets meticulously and the cats sniffing the sea air in search of a fish dinner.

Every weekend there is an interesting market where local producers offer delicious regional products. Among them you will find an array of rare herbs perfect to spice up any dish and used in the local cuisine offered by the restaurants in the harbour.

Hôtel Yorgo Seferis à Iskele, UrlaBook lovers may want to stay at the Yorgo Seferis Hotel, birth house of poet Gheorghios Serefiadis who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1963. This tastefully renovated stone house reopened its doors in 2000. It is a true museum with a very particular atmosphere, filled with ancient furniture, fifty year old memorabilia and vintage radios. In the evening, the locals join the tourists to listen to old traditional Turkish and Greek songs.

It is also well worth taking a walk around the borough of Urla to see the old traditional houses.

From atop the hill located between Urla and Iskele, the sunset will undoubtedly please the photographers and romantic view enthusiasts among you.
